A PERSONAL NOTE - JESSE
Cody is settling in for the night. He will be happy to find out that he is actually gaining weight. This summer is the most dedicated I have seen him to his training. He had knee surgery early this spring and said that his knee felt better then it has in years. Cody is prepared for action and is still sporting the kinetic tape on his knee. Also, he is starting to sport a sweet mustache!
I want to thank everyone who has stopped by. It has helped me a lot to see everyone and listen to all the Cody stories. Life is never dull when you are with him. He has always made me laugh and always brings out my less "serious" side. I truly believe Cody can hear and feel who is in the room and I know everyone's energy has helped him.
Tomorrow - Saturday will be a tough day for Cody. Brain swelling peaks 3-5 days after the injury. This is the next major hurdle for him. He is staying strong and the staff here is incredible.
Thank you for all the comments everyone has been leaving. I have his laptop in his room and I am reading these to him. I swear I saw him smile when I read the one from Ike about him becoming a better skier becasue of himself and Brad.

Cody, long odds have never been something that has daunted you. Whether it was making the US ski team in your mid-twenties, rallying a car with no power steering in Norway… who could ever imagine that you would ski a World Cup GS??? Your perseverance is unrivaled and will undoubtedly get you through this.
You will get through this Cody. You know why? Because YOU ARE SANCHO! No one else is Sancho…. I am not Sancho… the Doctor is not Sancho… the nurses are Not Sancho… No other patient in the hospital is Sancho… YOU ARE SANCHO!
Dude, I am praying for you continually, and know that God is with you as he was when I drove your baby, the Cheyenne, off the interstate during that snowstorm in Nebraska and we miraculously ended up back on the highway.
More people love you and your family than you can possibly imagine.
To the Marshall family: I wish that I could be there in Utah to help support you and give guys a big hug. Thank you for this blog and thank you for making Cody the person he is. My prayers are with all of you

Hi Guys - remembering all the good times when the kids were little and we were truckin around VT for ski races. Remember the little kitten we gave you at Sugarbush? Cody- you are going to get through this and persevere like you have through all of the incredible odds of working your way to the World Cup!!! Hi, I just wanted to share that in Oct. 07, my 46 year old husband fell down our basement stairs and suffered many of the same injuries as Cody. He was given a 10 percent chance of survival and a 1/1000 chance of not having significant brain injury. He had the head trauma, multiple broken bones, skull fractures, and a ruptured spleen. He developed a pulmonary embolism in ICU as well. But the reason I'm writing is to give you hope. Despite those crazy odds, the man we know and love is with us 100% today. You would never know that he had any brain injury at all!!! Just wanted to let you know that miracles can and do happen!

My son, a free style skiier, lives in Beaver Creek, Colorado where he has been jumping off of jumps and skiing the back country for many years. I follow Cody's accident and progress through your blog as the thought that my own son could be critically injured in this way is always with me. Please know that Cody and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. I am a nurse practitioner student now but worked for many years as a critical care nurse. I want you to know that I have witnessed miracles and I am praying to God for his blessing of healing and peace to you all. Stay in the moment and just take it one day at a time. Also, take good care of yourselves, i.e. be sure to eat and sleep. Kathy Snyder

We have never met Cody or your family, but I felt compelled to write in the hope of giving you strength. Our son, Richard Long (Ontario, Canada), suffered catastrophic injuries while GS training in Colorado in Nov 2007. He was given a 1% chance of surviving his injuries (major head trauma, spleenectomy, many fractures and internal injuries) and was in an induced coma for two weeks in Denver. We knew Richard was a fighter and it sounds like Cody is as well. Our hearts go out to you, we know first hand what you are going through. Please know that your love and support is the best medicine you can provide Cody through his recovery. I wish full recovery to Cody, and strong support to Chelsea and family.
I had the chance to speak with Cody and Chelsea by phone for the first time this spring. What I was struck by is how big brother and little sister have pushed each other to greater heights on the slopes and, although there was the usual sibling rivalry -- and some envy (Vermont teddy bear that Cody won at state) -- have closely followed each others' paths to where they are today.
Besides the skiing, I was very impressed by their maturity and determination to make the most of their talents.
I can't add too much on the personal level, other than to say that my thoughts are with all of you. Martin

Hey Cody and family! It sure has been awhile since I have seen any of you, but I have been sending positive energy from Vermont Cody's way. I was away this weekend camping, but made sure to get updates in text message format from Mags...(No I do not have an iPhone, but I hear they sell them in Vermont now)
