MEDICAL UPDATE SUNDAY 7:23 PM

Cody is starting to run a little warm. This morning he was shivering and they put a blanket on him to stop it. He has been hooked up to a cooling device that accurately controls his internal body temp. He has been kept at 36.0 degrees Celsius. When he went down for the CT scan they had to disconnect him from the cooling device. When he came back up his temp was at 37.0. Now he is at 37.8. They are working to determine the exact cause. The bacteria cultures that they took earlier are starting to come back from the lab. They have to monitor these levels closely because the cooling device inhibits the body's natural defense, which is simply a fever. The current thinking is his body is mounting a defense against the pneumonia. He was started on antibiotics yesterday and the vibrating vest has been doing a good job shaking the material in his lungs loose.

Hey Cody my man. Never really got to know you, but like many other retired ski racers, I follow familiar names around and yours was one of them. I met you through Colin Devore and he always had nothing but great things to say. Fight the good fight my friend. Powder is awaiting!

    To the Marshall family:

I am sad to hear of Cody's condition. As a survivor of major head trauma I know how scary it can be to family members. Cody will be in my thoughts during this difficult time...I will be praying for a full recovery and hopeful return to racing in the future!

    to the Marshall family,
My daughter Kate ski races and knows Cody. We are including all of you in our thoughts and prayers. I am a therapist, and have had a close family member as well as numerous clients who i have had the privilege of caring for during this trying and challenging time. Play his favorite music, even the really bad stuff that he secretly liked, have friends come by in limited numbers to talk to him about some of the crazy times, memories...as a family, use these visits as a time to get coffee, sleep, visit the chapel or just sit in the car and have a good cry. Keep up your strength, as you will need it in the days ahead as Cody wakes up, and needs everyone to be fresh and ready for the questions and challenges that he will face as he gets better. He is lucky to have such an amazing family and support group!
