A PERSONAL NOTE - NANU
Cody, do you remember when Pop-Pop and I visited
you in Vermont, and you would crawl into bed with us? Pop-Pop would
make up silly stories, and your laughter lit up the room. It was way
past your bedtime, but you would prolong it by asking Pop-Pop to tell
you another story, which of course, he always obliged. You were a night
owl, and that extends into your adult life.
Your visits to West Chester were so special. Remember when you and Jesse came to visit for a week, which was a double treat for me. On that trip, we toured Philadelphia one day, and the next morning we were on our way to New York City. I was so exhausted when you left, but the wonderful memories of our trips helped to alleviate the exhaustion. Other visits when you came alone were also very special. I cooked your favorite meal, pasta and meatballs, and I enjoyed watching you relish it. I am waiting for another visit. Thanks Jesse and Chelsea for being such a great part of Cody's recovery. I also want to thank Barb & Don for giving me four wonderful, loving and caring grandchildren. My prayers and loving thoughts are with you always.

I am a nurse, and mother of a free style skiier who lives in Beaver Creek, Colorado. I just read the entry from Cody's grandmother. Does she still live in West Chester, PA? I live in West Chester, and would like to offer my support. I can be reached at the e-mail provided. Two of my five children have been seriously injured and recovered! I follow you blog and pray daily for Cody's recovery and for God to wrap you all in loving arms.

I didn't know Cody very well till this summer.
I always thought of Cody as the older US Ski Team guy that was " really really good at SL". I was kinda itimidated by him at first, dont know why but I get like that. But Cody you are awesome! You like fried chicken and I like fried chicken so you pretty much rule.
I remember at Nor Am Finals last season at White Face was one of the first times I really talked to Cody.
I decided that it would be a good idea for me to get some SL training in before the race the next day so I went up to the training course which looked like a death trap to me; steep, icy, turny, too many gates and just hell basically. Cody and Paul were at the start and Cody said " Come Alice, rip it up!" Yeh right.... me ripping a course like that not really happening. But I thought ok, I can do this, just don't look like a total jobag so these guys think you are ok. I then proceeded to ski out every four gates and look like a jobag. I am sure Paul and Cody were REALLY impressed. Even my coach told me I looked like a jobag. But I don't think they laughed at me, even if they did I wouldn't blame them. I was a total gomer up there!
A few months ago at Vonn's house I was sitting at myself feeling pretty akward because I didn't really know anyone and I was just being a wierdo probably. But Cody made an effort to talk to me which was really nice! So thanks for talking to me Cody, I felt a little less akward for like ten minutes.
A week later at his and Will's place sitting on there deck is when I could say Cody was really my friend (oh yeh it was totally awesome!) he kept punching me whenever a bus drove by. Kinda like slug bug, no slug back only with buses. And I gave you a pretty good punch Cody, yeh I whooped up on you! So when you get better watch it, I might just whoop up on you again at the bus game!
Also if you could show me a few of your SL tricks when you are well that would be great; maybe I could impress some hot euro dude and he will buy me some fried chicken. That would just be super!
I miss your silly ass being around, so get better soon and I will treat you to some fried chicken!
We are rooting for you! I know you will be back strong as ever.

P.S. you will always be "my new best friend".

Alice,
I can relate! Cody was always the same for me. I can be the queen of awkward, and Cody would always come talk to me, include me and make things feel better.
So yes, Cody, thanks! Thanks for talking to me and being an instant friend.
I know I complained to you about your dancing skills, but it's OK. Apparently (so I'm told) I'm not the only girl you made a teensy bit uncomfortable on the dance floor.
But you know what? Thanks for getting my awkward ass out there. I look forward to more bad dancing with you really soon!
