MEDICAL UPDATE THURSDAY 9:01 AM
Cody's scheduled to get a new feeding tube today as he bit down and cut the last one. I like to think that he is starting to become aware and wants all that stuff out of his mouth. We are just hitting the early point of the Pentobarbital wearing off completely. I am hopeful for another active day from Cody. Go Cody Go!

When I was somewhere around 11 or 12, my dad and I started skiing with walkie talkies since we wouldn't last all day skiing together. This was way before those Talkabouts that everyone has now, back when it looked more like something ski patrol would have. When he saw mine, Cody would take it and sing "happy birthday David Segal" to my dad over and over and over until he would shut his off, rendering it extremely useful. There were many days with barefoot runs down to KBL from the training center to get pizza, and then tearing around the training center before heading back out for more skiing.
Cody, it's good to hear that you're coming back in full force and character. I talked to my dad yesterday and he referred to you as a hooligan but sends his best.
If any of you other Marshalls would like more baked goods just let me know— it's a quick trip to the hospital.

Please let Cody know that another top athlete, BMX dirt jumper Mike Aitken, who won the Dew Tour in Salt Lake last year, crashed and suffered major head trauma last October. He was in a coma for three months. That was then. Now he is riding trails and nearly back to normal.
It may take as much as two years to recover from a serious brain injury, but an athlete in as good shape as Cody will probably be back sooner. If he's already responding to the pinch test, he's gonna recover. There may be days of despair, but to the family: don't give up. He'll be back!

Wow Cody. Pretty impressive with the bitting of the feeding tube. I know you were probably telling everyone that you want the real stuff and not the liquid crap! Soon, very soon. It's all up to you. Wake up Cody, we are all waiting to see the whites of your eyes and your infamous smile!

Hi Marshalls, I wanted to add another Cody story for you. First, I was in Wengen yesterday and I hiked over to the SL hill (and DH hill), and WOW, it is so darn steep. So sweet that he raced there, and what a cute little Swiss town. But I also wanted to remind him of a travel adventure way back when. I can't remember what year, but we were PGing at GMVS and a bunch of us went to EU early before the Soelden camp. It was Dykster, Lindsay, Jess, Cody, Thatcher (who is serving in Afgahistan right now, cross your fingers for him too), Eric and me. I remembered this before Cody's accident too because I am in EU now and people I met were headed to Venice next. I remembered my time with this crew in Venice... Dykster was our chauffer, haha, and we hit up Munich, Kitzbuhel, then Venice and Lago di Garda. But in Venice we could't find a hotel or hostel so we ended up staying in our Euro van for the night. It was hilarious. Jess and I were the first back to the van so we got prime sleeping - the back benches. Cody was somewhat lucky and ended up on the floor below our benches, and others slept upright in front, in the back with the luggage, and on top. HAHA. Glad that wasn't me. But that trip was so much fun and it was also the last time I was in EU to travel, not ski. It makes me smile remembering the shinanigens. More incidents on the trip were almost losing Thatcher in Munich, cramming people into a hotel room near Lago di Garda, and Dhouse geting us to do abs in a park after hiking a mt across from Kitz. I guess we WERE there for SKIING... Anyway, thinking of you.

I can't tell you what an honor it is for me to be praying for you...I know that "God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion." I read the news story about your accident on AOL and have been checking this blog like so many others hourly. Although I know NOTHING about skiing (I once tried to learn at the tender age of 50 and couldn't even master the pizza slice- slow down thingy...therefore I was only able to stop by running into someone or something), I can tell that you are a gifted athlete, beloved family member, and great friend to so many. May this journey show you your true inner strength and demonstrate the depth of your family, friends, and even strangers love for you. And, also, prove the power of our healing God.
