MEDICAL UPDATE SATURDAY 11:49 AM

We just removed the breathing tube!! Cody is off the ventilator and breathing completely on his own!! After all the tubes came out he wouldn't open his mouth at all to lets us suction the extra saliva! Talk about stubborn, once those were out there was no chance he was letting anything back in his mouth. Cody is more active today and it looks to me like he is trying to get out of the bed. Cody is also looking to his right for the first time. His gaze has been to the left, away from the injury. I think WALL-E did the trick.

Hi. I am nurse at the U of U Hospital but have no direct contact with Cody. I appreciate the time your family takes to inform his friends and family of Cody's improvement and the clear methodical approach to defining the medical care a person receives in an ICU. I am so impressed with your website and it makes me proud to be a nurse at the U of U hospital. We don't get many opportunities to get to know our patients to such degree. It helps us to remember that the patient behind all the fancy bells and whistles is a person with a name. Go Cody!

Hey Cody - we're all thinking of you nonstop and sending strong vibes your way. I'm remembering all of us as kids trampsing around KTC causing trouble - like zipping Chelsea up in a ski bag and hanging her from a hook and leaving her there to fight her way out! Too funny (sorry about that, Chelsea!)! And to the Marshall family - you're all amazing! Your strength and courage is admirable but certainly not surprising - you've always been that way! Go Cody and Go Marshall Family!

Awesome news! I can tell you from first hand experience all those breathing tubes are TERRIBLE! I don't blame you, Cody, for not letting anything else in your mouth! Once I got off my ventilator I would do anything to not have it put back in. I'm sure you are way more comfortable with all that gone! Glad to hear all this good news.

Cody, I always remember you talking about how you wanted to open your own coffee shop one day. I think you'll do it! Keep doing what you're doing and making great progress! Positive thoughts going your way!

That is great news to hear about the ventilator today. I have heard about Cody’s accident from Kelly Brush. I know Kelly because we were in Craig Hospital together three years ago after I sustained a very similar injury after a ski accident in March 2006. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help Cody and you all out while you go through these tough times. Best wishes, it is a long road.

Come on Cody you better get your ass up so I can look forward to yelling at you at your next world cup start. You wanted to make a bet that if you got a second run I would wear a bib in the start with no shirt, so I tell you what you get your ass to the start and I will wear that bib for your first run now. So if you want to see that sight you better get up and going. Your friend Huey

I was riding the train back from Krakow to Prague today (11 hours, uggh) and didn't have internet access because my phone died...but was thinking about you the whole way, anxious to check the blog when I arrived home. And I was happy to see the sweet, sweet, sweet news! Cody...you gotta get up...I'd love to see Huey wear a bib without a shirt in the start gate...I'd FOR SURE go to Schladming if I got to see that sight! Heck, I'd wear a bib without a shirt with Huey if you get your ass up (hmmm...rethinking this one...maybe if you made it to your second run). Ha.
