MEDICAL UPDATE THURSDAY 12:03 AM

Long day for the Codeman today and family.

Yes as we said before he did get up and walk with the assistance of many which is AWESOME!!!
He will continue his road trips down the hall and back this week wearing his stylish white helmet. (he hates it but he does look adorable) He is quick to anger which is normal in severe head trauma's and he is experiencing pain all over which the Doc is trying to manage.
It is peaks and valleys all day and night.

He still has blood clots in his arms and the Doc is working on this issue.

He is very quick to make impulse decisions like pulling a staple out of his head which thank god did not reopen his wound but did cause some bleeding.  He does find himself swatting at his Dr.'s and Nurses who remain incredible through his impulses and frustrations.

His frustration as all of us Cody supporters know around the world is understandable.
He is restrained but needs 24 hour bedside supervision as he is sneaky and figures out ways to get to what he wants. He also can't be restrained at all times so these are opportune moments for him to strike.

While he is a 26 year old adult he is currently in toddler mode due to the head trauma, so negotiating with him is difficult.  He remains very active trying to find ways to be comfortable. As you know it is close to impossible for anyone much less an athlete to have to be restrained to a bed and also painful to be in one position for 2 weeks now. He still wears a neck brace that he tries to remove given a chance. He was in more pain today than I have seen in the past 2 weeks.

He did pass the swallow test today but will have a feeding tube reinserted if he does not eat tomorrow.

This is a battle that is hard to put in words,
You guys have to know your comments don't only motivate Cody they motivate all of us through the long days, the emotional breakdowns and the victories we celebrate together. They give us patience and courage, strength and hope. Every comment is read to Cody and the family takes turns listening and reading them,  we need this blog just as much as Cody does. So thank you for the continued support and daily comments.

An Angel we were told named Sandy?? ... had sandwiches, chips, salad, drinks, cookies, ... delivered to the hospital today,  it could not have come at a better time, we rarely take a moment to eat, mostly we get coffees from the Starbucks at the hospital downstairs so THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! From all of us ! You have no idea how much it helps and how appreciative we are.
Please shoot us an email or comment so we can thank you personally! It was delicious and the first time we all ate, let alone together.
Please contact us. I apologize if they got your name wrong let us know.  Thank you again.

Till the morning.

Cody - You don't know me, but I've been reading your blog every day and coming to know you and your family through it. This morning I cried. You're making progress, but you're not having any fun through this. In some ways I hope you're not able to remember any of it when it's all said and done. In other ways I hope you'll be able to look back and see the remarkable feat you've accomplished. Especially, though, I hope you'll be able to recall the love and support from your friends and family who are by your side. That really says alot about who you are and how much they love you because of who you are. Cody, I pray that each day you'll get closer and closer to regaining the life you knew before the accident. Though I don't know you, and I'm not there to witness your daily challenges and accomplishments, I -- like many others -- are cheering you on from a distance. I applaud your spirit and determination. (But please have mercy on the medical staff and your family and friends who are there to help you!) We can only imagine what you're going through. You WILL get through this!

You are going to pull through because that's what you do. Every little sign of progress is HUGE even though it might feel small. I' ve sent your blog out to the membership of the ski club where I coach (Bromley in VT). We're all pushing hard for you. I think having a F U attitude is the best one to have!
    Keep pushing hard.........

    Dear Cody and Marshall gang,

I think I will make more snicker doodles for you all today, while wearing my Think Cody T-shirt....in which I have penciled in "whoa Cody whoa"! I think with all the butter and sugar in one cookie, your daily caloric needs will be met! (I believe the cookie monster ate the ones I left in your freezer)

I will also be working on a stylish knitted helmet cover. Perhaps we could have a patch with a helmet sponsorship on it....what do you think?

Stay strong all you impressive Marshalls and Draven, and of course Cody...I have the entire Bible belt here in the Midwest praying for you all

    We love you so Cod-e-o

Cody, you hot stallion, you! You probably need a permanent helmet anyways, injury or no injury. I mean if you need to use a helmet for fucking slalom, you might as well keep it on for going to the bathroom... Where did you learn to swear like that??!! I don't know how they take interviews over at espn, but eurosport is a family station with impressionable Europeans whose ears are not as evolved as ours. "If you can talk, you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance."

    Keep walking, Code!

Cody, I am spinning my "Prayer Wheel" clockwise and sending good Kharma your way. Especially visualizing positive protective energy around your heart. Then spinning it counterclockwise for strong protective energy to calm and tame your mind. Keely came home yesterday and told me about all your fiesty determination. We will both be wearing our "Think Cody" t-shirts. Be strong young man. And bless you Chelsea, Jesse and family. Chelsea put a little oil of cinnamon on his pillow, that will remind him of the smell of cinnamom rolls your mother made when you were children. Also, some oil of Marjoram can release tensions and quell worry. A good smell can improve spirits and fill Cody with energy, vigor and love. Sense of smell is linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, the emotional control center. Just some positive thoughts your way. Be strong.

Cody & family, a few great memories...There were many days of hiking killington in the summer after swim team w/ barb, tucker, chelsea & the dogs. Some of these days included dispersing barb’s ski equipment amongst herself, chelsea, & tucker so she could get a few turns in on the small patch of snow on superstar that hadn’t melted yet. I always had fun watching this. I think I was 8 yrs old when I first joined swim team; I made states in the 25yd backstroke that year, which I was totally pumped but ridiculously nervous about. I remember barb coming over b4 the race so I could hold onto her ankles in order to get my start right; I still remember her saying how she tried to get Cody to help me, but he wouldn’t so she there she was…thanks barb, I’m sure I had one hell of a start that day! I know I did get a ribbon which I was pretty excited about! Then there’s the CPR/lifeguard course that a group of us took w/ barb as our instructor, something like that is definitely not supposed to be that fun!! When it was time to practice our rescues, we headed down to the pool and needed some volunteers, jesse & chuck were our victims, most likely because barb made them. Being a scrawny 14 year old, I remember thinking these guys were huuuge!! They did a really good job of being dead weight & it was not an easy task to pull either of them off the bottom of the pool. There were so many laughs during that week & afterwards we were all able to get high paying jobs as lifeguards at the pool; $5.25 never felt so good! There’s also the day we decided to put our canoe in the pool, I guess the piece of golf turf (or whatever it was!) we used to throw in there just wasn’t cutting it that day; this of course, was after we squeezed tucker into a swim cap and all dressed up in Halloween costumes, most likely during “rehearsal” for the big show at the end of the year party. I remember the last year or two that I was on swim team, myself & cody were the only ones that had to swim the 200IM every single meet, we would strategize before every race exactly how slow we were going to go but would agree that we had to finish at the same time, bc we couldn’t just let the other person win. And there were definitely many days working together when we should have closed the pool, it was overcast, drizzling & no one was coming down to swim, but instead this was the perfect time to work on our golf game. We’d take turns using the 2 crappy, rusted clubs that someone left behind and if we were out of golf balls we could always find some in the woods along the field, and any sort of tree, rock, or goal post would do as a ‘hole’. Those in charge definitely didn’t think this was as good of an idea as we did. And many more great memories w/the Marshalls!U guys are great& all so strong!!Keep up it up,it looks like all your hard work is starting to pay off!Hang in there!I know Im far away but if there's ANYTHING I can do to help, dont hesitate to ask! hope to see u all soon, lots of love...kate

    Hey Jesse, Chelsea,
You guys are doing a great job. I know this must be one of the most difficult things you have probably ever encountered but you two are strong and everyone appreciates your commitment to the blog updates.
    Cody,
You were always a great friend to me and by no means am I religious but I find myself praying in intervals throughout every day for you bud. You will get through this and one day soon you, daver, weissman, johnny davidson, pt anderson, the warhorse, libby, and myself will enjoy another night of awesomeness in celebration of weibrecht's 3rd or 4th annual 21st birthday celebration at the weibrecht cottage bar. Who knows, I may even show up to breakfast in underwear again having lost my pants. Stay strong, stay positive.

my best and love to all you guys,

    Dear Marshalls,

You guys are a remarkable family and I am truly amazed by the strength and support you have given Cody. Stay strong! Cody will get through this...he will bite and scratch (and pull staples) to find a way to get out of that hospital.

Cody, hang in there!! Don't get too frustrated because things will continue to improve. Remember that everyone is supporting you. You are so much stronger than any of us know (especially because you are pulling staples out of your head)...damn. Seriously, you'll be back on the slopes in no time :o)

I'm continuously praying for your all. STAY STRONG!

Codeman...you are freaking amazing. Now that you can eat real food, do you have any European chocolate/candy (Haribo) requests? Lemme know, Chelsea/Jesse...and I'll ship some over (for you guys too).

Also, trying to find a sweet sticker...as I think many people will be vying for that precious headgear sponsorship real estate on the front of your helmet. If only my hostels had stickers...damn. I'll keep working on it.

In the meantime, let me know if I can send you some euro treats (sorry, can't send any czech women through the mail...they're really strict at customs).

Cody, Barb and Don, my thoughts are with your family. This must be a very difficult time. Barb, just as you squeeze 100% out of every ski day, getting last chair and coming in past all the groups in the afternoon, I'm sure you are putting in 110% to make sure all that can be done to help Cody is happening. I have a friend that went through a similar head injury and he, like Cody, has made remarkable progress. Stay strong and patient. Webbie

Again, I an so impressed with Codys progress and your words of wisdom in his blog. Someday this journey will be over, keep the blogs, write a book a special journal. You have know idea how much your day to day stories, information, blunt honesty may someday help other people in this same situation. When my son went through his tbi I searched and searched just for someone to explain the simplest things to me. You have given me more information then any doctor gave me. Keep it up. Ptayers Peg
