MEDICAL UPDATE THURSDAY 4:53 PM
Good News Today!
Cody got his neck brace off. He got his feeding tube out by pulling it out and does not have to go back in. He decided today he would start eating ice cream Vanilla to be exact.
This is great for him because he is no longer restrained. It was the toughest of afternoons so far and the pay off was well worth it!!!
We hope he will continue to eat so he can keep that tube out and his hands free.
He is definitely in pain as he has a couple fractured ribs that are bothering him but the medicine helps to control that. However they just have to heal on their own. He will work through it.
He is finally resting but was a fire cracker today. He definitely put Chelsea and I to the test today. There wasn't a sentence that wasn't yelling or dropping F-bombs.He could not sit still..We are wiped but so happy with his progress.
So HUGE STEPS TODAY!
1. Walked better today than yesterday.
2. Got his feeding tube out
3. Eating Ice Cream on his own
4. No more neck brace
5. Drinking Water
6. Telling us when he has to pee
7. He gave the DOC a thumbs up
8. He said thank you to the DOCS (awwww)
9. He said thank you to us (awwww)
10. He is sleeping
GO CODY GO!!!!

I, like so many others, have been checking this blog on a daily basis. I don't know Cody and didn't know who he was until he made it on the news in Utah. Glad to hear of the great progress over the last few days especially. He is lucky to have such awesome family and friends! And a great medical team. Good luck in reaching a full recovery Cody. It sounds like you are well on your way! Keep it up!

Dear Cody and family,
I have never met any of you, however Barb knows my parents (Joan and Bill O’Malley) and my sister Mary Anne Moisan. I am a nurse in Burlington, Vermont and have 2 daughters (Jasmine and Mikaela Bruce) who will be skiing this year with Cody’s old coach Fritz.
I have been following your blog, and want to commend all of you for the wonderful job you are doing supporting Cody! This support is invaluable for his healing and recovery.
I wanted to comment on the feeding tube issue, as I have a great deal of experience working with patients who require enteral nutrition thru ng, but mainly thru g-tubes.
If he is unable to advance his diet over the next week or so, they may suggest placing a g-tube. If this is the case, do not hesitate to have one placed. The ng-tube they have used so far (out of necessity I understand at this point) is incredibly annoying to have in place, as any of us can imagine. It takes a great deal of self-control for many patients who have not experienced any head trauma to keep from yanking them out. A g-tube is far less annoying and is usually pain free. G-tubes are a huge convenience and very easy to use. His nutrition will become more and more important now to promote his healing , and often times a feeding tube can take the pressure off trying to take everything in by mouth.
It sounds as though you are in great hands there. Please feel free to get in touch if there is anything I can do to help.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers!
Very sincerely,
Kate O’Malley

Hi there:
I am the chef at GMVS and have been following your site and wanted to support the idea of the g-tube. I worked for years w/a young man w/severe cerebral palsy who had to have major back surgery (his spine was curving into his chest cavity and squeezing into his lungs and heart). He was in a drug induced coma for a couple days... I spent 3 days w/him in intensive care so I know what you guys are going through! Anyhow the g-tube was an awesome thing. We were able to get a juicer and make an awesome "shake" to give to Chris. It provided him with the nutrition he needed to fight. Thinking of you guys..go Cody!

Cody,
Just scrolled through your facebook photos. I literally laughed out loud at some of the fun times we have had. Those memories are nothing compared to the ones we have yet to make. Hurry up and get better so that we can continue to have great times. Let me know when you figure out what the song of the year is going to be, i haven't heard andy great ones yet, at least nothing that tops "Daylight". I've been rocking out to daylight a ton, it never gets old. Can't wait to see you again buddy, i'll make some turns for you down in newzealand. Enjoy the ice cream and get well.
Lots of love,
Tim

Cody,
Heard a rumor today that I am sure some people will not like me sharing with you. But I've had people mad at me before, and we work through it.
Rumor on the down-low is that I will be hosting Nor-Am Finals this year. I will be seriously pissed if you aren't there.
Last year, for E-Cup finals, we had 25 girls. When I saw some of the no-shows later and asked them why they didn't come the answer was always the same: Cody doesn't ski SG. If Cody isn't there, it's not worth it for us to be there.
Keep at it Cody, I want to be in your appointment book at the end of March.

Cody, YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!! What good news!!! You are making unbelievable progress ... I am SO happy you are getting rid of all your tubes and restraints... I'm sure that was very difficult for you as well as all the caregivers ... now you can be more relaxed and peaceful and get on with the program ...
Cody, you are AMAZING... Keep moving forward ... you have so many people who love you and who are praying for you and sending positive thoughts for your recovery ... you are so lucky to have your siblings and Draven there to help you every step of the way ... Just keep walking ....
Love,

Hi Cody,
You don't know me either - the closest we've been is me watching you dance across the bumps between knee deep ruts at the Sugar SL. It was just poetry.
I was gatekeeping, actually. And when I saw you do that it made me think of a common thread in racing: when we are young racers, we smile and wave at the gatekeepers as we go by. When we are old racers, we are gatekeepers and want to smile and wave at the young racers as they go by.
Anyway, after watching you do that I'm sure that you can get through any challenge set before you. I'm also betting that sometime soon I'll get to see you in another Sugar SL. And this time, Cody, I'll be sure to smile and wave.
Wishing you a rapid recovery,
Bob Harwood

Love you Cody. Keep fighting. Wish I was there. No really. I wish I was there with you, for one. But also, it turns out the real world isn't that sweet, so I wish I was there.
Nah, it isn't really that bad, but I am there with you in my thoughts.

Cody and the Marshall Family,
I just hear about Cody's fall. As I searched I flashed back to the Pico days when Don would come over from Killington and have the whole clan in tow. Often shoeless, rosey cheeked and still wanting to ski. I am sure that the never quit spirit that I loved about the Marshall family will prevail and I hope that the road to recovery continues at a constant pace. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. When the time comes and if there is any thing else that I can do to help please ask. All my best, Love
Michael Rogan

Hey Cody, Marshalls and Draven-
I just want to thank you guys so much for all your updates. I get up in the morning and check your blog and i go to bed at night and check your blog. It is so nice to get a new update so often. I am sure the entries will get fewer as time goes on, but i just want you all to know that it has been so nice to hear such detail about the progress he is making. Draven, from what i can see on the blog, you have been doing so much for Cody and the Marshalls and i think you are awesome, even though I've never met you!! I am thinking about you all, ALL the time! Keep coming back to us Cody!
xo, Linds

What amazing progress and what wonderful support! Cody, you are loved by so many. I have been following your progress from the very beginning and am SO thrilled at the gains that you are making. Okay, so I mostly remember you as a young boy, ripping up Killington with your brother and sister (and how!). I'm so looking forward to seeing you back at it again SOON.
Lots of love and positive thoughts from Burgundy, France.

Hello Cody,
I read the story of your accident and I was shocked. I'm a ski instructor in the Netherlands so I know what it is to live a life with a passion like skiing. I wish you all the best and I hope you will recover quickly. In the Netherlands we say "Hou vol en geef niet op". I will translate it for you because I think your Dutch is not so good
I hope to see you on TV at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada.
Greetings,
Peter

Hey Cody,
The family email is fantastic and we all enjoy reading it every day. Hang in there mate. I will be in Park City next week if you need me to speak to the Dietitians at the hosptital or if I can help you with trying to keep that feeding tube out. Susie Parker-Simmons

Cody is a real superstar. You can tell he's an athlete by how far he has come in such a short period of time. And his family is absolutely the best family a person could ever hope to have. I have been tracking Cody's accident and progress since the beginning and I have such admiration for all of you. Your love for your brother and son has a lot to do with his healing. Keep the faith and soon Cody will be able to go home. I am sure you are all very excited with his progress. He's the bomb!
