MEDICAL UPDATE SUNDAY 12:54 PM
Wow, what a morning the codeman and I have had! He was finally cleared to eat solid food and we just shared a bagel sitting in the chairs in front of his window. For dessert we split a chocolate chip cookie. He is very lucid today. He knows he is in Salt Lake City, before he would answer Canada. What was amazing for me today is that he explained this to the doctor. He talked about how he thought he was in Canada but now he knows he is in SLC. He sometimes will call me dad and then stop himself and apologizes. He will say "dude, I know you are Jesse and I don't know why I just called you dad".
I have noticed that Cody is at his best with two people in his room with him. If there are more then two he seems to have a hard time understanding what everyone is saying and he gets frustrated. When he takes his medication it works best with just one person. He likes you to explain him what every pill is and why you want him to take it. More then one person in during this process makes it hard for him to focus.
Two of my favorite moments:
He asked a nurse for a pen and then preceded to write his number on her hand. He asked me later if she has called.
I played some SL training video from last year. His comment - "look how straight I am going, I defiantly won that run by a second".

He tried to pick up the nurse by giving her his digits. OMG. Too funny. Was his phone number written correctly. If so, that shows even more progress! And, I can;t beieve he has women call him! Too smart.
;-]
At least he is not trying to hit on all of the nurses. That gives that nurse a compliment, sorta ... I wonder if he will try to smack her on the rear one of these days. A step back for women, yet a step forward for Cody.
I love how patient the nurses are, and that they have a sense of humor, too. I am sure they have many stories to tell ...
Hugs - Colby

All the girls (yes, Cody, ALL of us!) had the biggest crush on Cody back in J5s and J4s... not a surprise the guy's still got it.
Reading about your recovery takes me right back to my brother's months in the hospital after his TBI-- occurred in a freak ski accident at Sugarbush on January while he was in college. All of this sounds so familiar, I just wanted to let you know that you, Cody, and you, his family, are not alone. 10 years later, my brother has made a complete recovery-- he is married to a total babe and is in business school at Dartmouth... living his life as if he wasn't in a coma for a week or longer and then in rehab for months after that.
You are going to make it, Code! You have a long battle ahead of you but it sounds like you've got quite the army to help you win it.
Sending lots of love from Wyoming,
Katie Franklin
p.s. I am starting nursing school next year. Hope I don't have to eff up someone's world with bigass needles and cold food!

Hey Cody – I thought I was in Canada after my brain injury. I have no memory of the hospital at all but my family always tells me then when I was asked where I was I would answer Canada. That is a funny similarity why would we answer Canada when I have never lived there and I suppose you haven’t either. It sounds like you are doing great eating food, cookies, and whatever you desire. When I started to eat after 4 months of having a feeding tube I was addicted to ice cream and would eat bowl after bowl after bowl. So have a great time eating and good luck on your recovery.

codeman I remember watching your SL runs, thinking there was no way anyone could possibly hold that straight of a line, but somehow you did, and made it look pretty easy. Keep your line to recovery as straight as your skiing; I look forward to watching some straight WC ripping soon. Keep it up, my thoughts are with you and family

A message from the girls in NZ.
Cody!!!! We are all so psyched to here that you are doing so much better! I wish we could all be there to watch you get better, it sounds like you are really killing it. Way to go!
The skiing here is good except I think we all went into shock when we went outside and it was cold, not like the nice 90 degrees in Utah. ha ha oh well, maybe we should all just toughen the fuck up! haha
Anyway we all really miss you and are thinking of you.
We know you are super tough and will get through this like a champ!
Git er done Cody!!
