MEDICAL UPDATE MONDAY - 11:21 AM

Cody is having a great morning. He is eating his breakfast and has taken his medication.
He has physical therapy and may possibly be moving to rehab depending on his progress and ability to pass some test today.  I have to say when I sent out the call to motivate there are some great comments I read to him that day and I still read them to him when he is being a booger.

He is still hazy on where and why he is here and has a very short term memory as to be expected. It is peaks and valleys and I imagine will remain that way for a while. He talks coherently for short periods of time and still cannot filter noise or focus on conversation. He gets confused very easily but is trying to work through it.

Cody is the Miracle Boy around these parts. While he has made huge strides there are still huge strides that need to follow. We are still combating the infection and blood clots in his arms. We are still waiting to find out the extent of the Brain Damage and he will most likely continue to have seizures as a result of the injury. There is a lot of unknown at the moment. What we do know for damn sure is that we would rather have the unknown to deal with than not have our Cody!

He still has 1 more surgery to get through which will be scheduled in the next 2 weeks this will be to put his "bone flap" back on his head.

I know he will make these strides through the next few weeks. He is a fighter, it's in his blood. With your help and encouragement we can all get through this!!

Keep thinking Cody you guys, I can't wait till he is the one writing an update on this blog I just know it is coming...

There will be another update to follow as soon as I meet with the Docs...

    Hi Cody,

Our families go back aways, and I know my father and I, all of us, have fun tracking you guys online to see where you are in the world skiing, and the successes you and your siblings have on an international level. It is incredible to see how another Pittsfield boy can go out and try to conquer the world on a set of skis. Now I follow your progress on this blog and it is just as, if not more, inspiring to see how you are working hard to recover. It sounds like you have an incredible attitude towards this situation, and that will be the most important thing as you work toward recovery. Stay strong and keep fighting. Everybody in the Stumpf family is rooting for you as we always have and have no doubt that you will succeed in your goal as you have in the past.

    All the best to you,
    -Brian

I wanted to express how fricking grateful we all are that cody has such an amazing family and group of friends to help him and all of us through this difficult time. Having these updates on cody's condition every day has given me a good cause to put mental energy into. Although I have not written in much I get the updates and have cody and his family on my mind through out the day. I have a friend that dowses and has also been doing every thing in her power to get cody through and "clear" him. I am sooooo happy that cody is being a smart ass and giving the nurses his number, I laugh and almost cry every time I hear about those situations. We are all rooting for you cody over here in vermont and have you and your family in our thought always. keep up the hard work. Big hugs to everyone, Bryna

    Hi Cody,
I'm sorry - it's been a while since I last checked in with news of the Dylan concert. I've been on the road a lot since then. I spent a few days in Pennsylvania - in Pittsburgh where I saw one of my best friends from college days and spent an amazing afternoon in the Phipps Conservatory which has a huge array of plants, trees, butterflies, etc., from everywhere. I also saw the Pirates beat the Brewers. Then I went to Fallingwater, a famous Frank Lloyd Wright house in the hills southeast of Pittsburgh. It would be too hard to try to describe how cool that place is - he was a genius, no question. Then I went to Philadelphia, saw some of the touristy stuff there and watched the Phillies lose to the Cubs. Then I spent all last week in concertina school. I think I told you last spring that I had gotten way, way into Irish Traditional music and was learning to play Anglo concertina which is used in Irish music. I was able to spend a week in East Durham, NY (pretty close to Hunter Mountain) learning from the greatest living Irish concertina player, Noel Hill. It was an intense week - I was playing as much as 6 - 8 hours a day, learning tunes and improving technique. I got great feedback from Noel as well as my fellow students - they all said that I sounded like I'd been playing for years instead of just 9 months. Besides meeting and studying with Noel, the other cool thing was our evening sessions - some of us would gather in the back of the pub with concertinas, accordions, flutes, tin whistles, harmonicas and guitar and play tunes for a few hours. This was really fun, as I've been learning Irish music completely on my own. So it was really cool to meet other musicians and to find out that I could hold my own in those sessions. So now I'm back for a week, then going to Minnesota for a week before school starts again later this month.
I've been following the updates and it's been really fun to learn that you're doing so well and getting better so quickly. I'm not surprised that you're the man around there - you're the man wherever you are! It's also been fun to see that you're as stubborn there as you always were - some things don't change, I guess. I know you've got some work to do yet, so keep hanging in there. Even though I haven't been in touch too much I'm thinking of you all the time. Just sort of like our relationship all these years - we've never kept in that close touch because we haven't needed to - we know we're there for each other if needed. I'm here for you now, too, and while I know as well as anyone how stubborn you are, you DID listen to me once in a while, and I hope you're listening now when I say you're the man and I'm thinking of you all the time. Hang in there, my man, keep fighting and getting better and don't take any grief from anybody! All best! Rolf

    CodyMon,
Remember this, our lives are not determined by what happens to us but by how we react to what happens, not by what life brings to us, but by the attitude we bring to life. A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst, a spark that creates extraordinary results. Stay positive and you will acheieve extraordinary results.
