REHAB UPDATE FRIDAY 3:17 PM

Hello To All,

Today started early for Cody. They tried to wake him up at 7:00am in which he replied "I don't get out of bed until 9 come back later" They gave him a little bit of time to adjust to the new schedule but got him up and going.

Mikkel did his PT with him today and in his words "they kicked his butt" It was a lot for the first day but not to much just more than he is used too. He then did speech and writing this afternoon which went well. He i in good spirits but exhausted so I was quick to get him to eat lunch and lay down for a nap so he wouldn't get aggravated.

He is falling asleep to a movie and will probably nap for a while. I am so proud of how well he did today with Mikkel and his PT's. It is a huge adjustment but he will slip into the groove as we go. He is having trouble with balance and memory but that is normal. He weighs 144 pounds which he is very unhappy about but that won't take long to put back on.

The move has had a few bumps.  I am trying to iron out today, just on communication and the Charge Nurse yesterday sheeesh her and I will needless to say not be friends but I would like to send her to Molly Manners or get her a copy of Betty and Bobby Squirrel.

Other than that GO CODY GO!! He will be down here for 7-10 days before we take him back up for his bone flap surgery. He will emain on his antibiotics until the 18th.

Hugs to all the support comments were fantastic!!! Each day will get tougher but we can do this! He gets very frustrated but I know he will work through it.

 For Now Until Then
D-

    Hey Cody -
GREAT job on PT and all of the progress that you have made. Step by step....you CAN do it!

Draven - I'm sure that once Cody is back on the hill, you'll get requests from around the country to come and be their advocate. You rock!

    GO CODY GO!

PS - It's HOT in VT this week. Summer finally arrived - just in the nick of time! School starts on the 26th.

    Good Job Cody!
    You are on your way!
Draven, who cares what the charge nurse thinks! Its all about Cody and not her (or him).
My wife has had a lot of health problems and been in and out of surgeries and hospitals. The nurses for the most part, are over worked and tired from lack of sleep or too much partying...whatever. I learned to put my foot down persistently and not scream at them(although I really wanted to!) and they would come around and finally take care of her. Patience is a virtue and obviously you got that!
Keep up the great advocacy that you are doing!
    Its all for Cody! Wahoo!

    Hi Draven and Cody
I am so impressed with the both of you. Draven: Cody could not have asked for a better advocate, God Bless You for your persistence in constant love and support of your Brother.
Cody: you are truly a miracle, I know these next few weeks and months will be hard on you, but as an athlete I'm sure you are accustomed to hard work. I have been reading the blogs every day and pray for your continued recovery.

    WAY TO GO, CODY!!!!!!

Remember: Don't get frustrated, GET MOTIVATED!!!!!!! (I know....easier said than done!)

The brain is a remarkable thing, I've found, and as long as you work as hard as you can, and make sure you get lots of rest, it will surprise the HECK out of you!

HANG IN THERE! We are with you EVERY STEP OF THE WAY!!!!!

I can't wait to get my T-shirt! I'm going to wear it EVERYWHERE!

I think I'll get the New Orleans one, too! I'm going to a Speech and Language National Conference there in New Orleans, and I would LOVE to spread the word about how remarkable CODY is!!!!

Cody - I awoke this morning to the sunniest of all days (yet) in Prague and grabbed my computer to catch Draven's daily update.

SO jazzed to hear you were rockin' the PT house. I know being down to 144 must be hard (the news is hard for me too...because it means I have some losing to do. ha ha)...but you'll gain it back when you get (fully) back on the horse.

The sun is shining bright for you today, Code. Go get 'em!

    Smiles,

    Meg

Draven, you are....amazing. powerful. awe inspiring. compassionate. driven. The Marshalls are so unbelievably fortunate to have you in Cody's circle.

Now, Cody. AWESOME news on the rehab work. Not just the body work, but the brain work too. It isn't going to be easy and you ARE going to get frustrated. That's ok. Just let it out and move through it. (And don't take it out on Draven! use a mean nurse.)

here in southern VT we are having SUMMER. supposedly hitting the upper 80's today! it's wonderfully sunny. i've already mowed our lawn and my parents' and lost at least 5lbs of water weight doing it.

time to stain the deck. wanna help?
    be strong.

    Hey Codeman
Just checking in. I lucked out today. I am cat sitting for my neighbor in Vts. cat, so I don't have to go that far to check on you. ( I don't really care for cats, but I do my neighbor so enough said on that. So way to go with the PT. just remember how your first day kicked your butt, and how by next week you won't believe how much you have improved.
I hope you know how well your doing in such a short period of time for such an injury. SO keep up the good work, and keep pushing. And remember rest is part of your recovery as well. We are all supporting you here in the Mcd family your one special guy. Go Cody go....
Oh ya, give a shake to brilliant for us because he truely is a blessing and what an advocate to have at your bed side.
Always in our thoughts and prayers

This all sounds great. I'm sure you'll over come the personality niggles.

    Go Cody and Draven!

This one is definitely a marathon rather than a two-minute ski race. But anyway, keep on doing what you're doing in your own style. Great that the move has gone better this time. It's really great to read about all the progress.

    Best wishes,

Cody,Cody,Cody! I'm just now getting caught up on your progress...Phew! You've had a busy week!!! Bummer about your left ear! I know your body will compensate for it somehow!...Skip and I had a good time in St Augustine...we drank a toast to you from the Fountain of Youth! It's back to work today even tho I don't really want to...Skip asked me if I was ready and I told him that if Cody can go through what he has to, then I certainly can get to work! ThinkCody has become a powerful motivator!!! I got a birthday card with a picture of an old man and woman on it...(ya think they're teasing me about my age?)the woman says, "They say the memory's the first thing to go." the man says, "I thought it was the hearing." then the woman says,"Eh...What'd you say?" and the man says,"I don't remember!" Hang in there Cody, you're young and you're strong, and TeamCody is powerful!!! You will get through this!...Paris...(Skip and Miranda too!)
