REHAB/MEDICAL UPDATE WED 7:17 PM

Hello

So I had a meeting with the Docs today that went well. We have a lot of questions for them before Cody has his Bone flap surgery. While Cody is doing well there are a lot of potential risks to this surgery and we want to make sure we feel secure in moving forward with it. As of now it is pushed back to Thursday and we may push it back further depending on what happens the next few days.

After talking of course more questions came up after wards as it is a lot of information to absorb and we want to be as conservative as possible. There are inherent risks that can happen during the surgery and neurological risks that can happen after the surgery which all need to be taken into consideration. As they potentially are steps backward.

Typically Bone flap replacement happens 3 months out of recovery of course this depends on the patient but that is the median if there is one. We are 5 weeks out so as you can imagine we have questions and concerns, while Cody wants to get out here as soon as possible we want him to get out and not come back except for check-ups etc....

The Dr's have been great at meeting with me and answering all the questions we have and I hope they continue to do so as they feel 100% about doing it,  I feel we need to feel as comfortable as possible with this surgery ourselves and right now I would say barb, I and the rest of the family are at 40% so over the next few days I will be working on getting the answers and having lots of debates and family discussions on weather or not we will be moving forward on this surgery this next week.

There is risk of seizure, coma, infection, neurological decline i.e. confusion, severe fatigue, less verbal, etc.... so this scale will be carefully weighed. As for now we have until Thursday.

For Now Until Then
Draven

    Hey Cody!
The heat and humidity broke and it's a PERFECT Vermont summer day. I mean, blue bird skies, it's cool, it's not humid and it is just freaking awesome. You focus on great things at PT today and make some more forward progress, so you can come back East and visit everyone soon.

    Hi Cody!
Way to go with scheduling the outings! Fun things to look forward to.

As far as a couple of steps backwards, I would tell you that that is a possibility, but at the same time, those steps backwards may help make even LARGER strides forwards.

I don't know much about the bone flap replacement and timeline, so I am going to read up on that. I'm wondering, also, if you could get some extra support and/or information from the Brain Injury Association of Utah(www.biau.org). Typically they do have some advocates that can help get you more information and help you to advocate on Cody's behalf. The national Brain Injury association may also be able to help.

    Keep your spirits up!

    Cody-
Missed you down in New Zealand. Glad to hear that you are doing well and kicking ass on the recovery. I hope the surgery goes smoothly for you. I saw you just before I left for NZ, although I am pretty sure you wouldn't remember. That is ok. I have been there! Keep strong bud! I made some drill turns on my slalom skis for you.

    Hi D-man,

Well, it looks like some decisions that your team has to decide are not going to be easy. I certainly will send some positive energy and prayer all the way from Michigan. Cody is good hands with your decision making.

Cody can for sure can gain strength in knowing that his support team is making the right choices. Draven, all the best to the Cody man and all of the great support team that are in place. Make sure you take care of your self as well, so that you can be strong for the long haul.
