HOME UPDATE THURSDAY 9:50PM
Hello All,
Busy Busy week. Cody had a Dr appointment today that went well. He has several more coming up over the next couple of months. We have been playing games, going to rehab and going to rehab....
We had a couple angels this week bring us some delicious meals which helps out huge. Thank you to Lauri from USSA for arranging it.
Thank you to Mrs. Avrin and Jess Tidwell for making meals this week. As we say here scrumdiddlylicious!! It was a bigger help than anyone could possibly imagine.... and hugely appreciated. Lauri you were right ! Thank you so much to each of you.
Cody is doing well, he is focusing on doing activities that stimulate his brain so we play chess, cranium, monopoly, clue, etc.. all to keep his brain moving. We will be starting flash cards and memory games this week. He will be taking his cognitive impact test Oct.15 so we will have a base of where he is at then for now it gives us time to exercise his brain and get him thinking more. He continues speech therapy (and PT) in SLC which is going really well. He gets frustrated at times but no more than expected and anyone else would.
We remain hopeful and focused on training, there are a lot of requirements he must go through to get on snow again. We had a great meeting with USSA and have a program in place for him to start working toward his goals. We have been reading Lance A's book which is such a great book I would highly recommend it, Thank you to Monet & The Pie Pizzeria for sending it!
I do hunt for great books, a few have been mentioned on the blog which I am going to get, I just haven't had time to search online yet. I appreciate the recommendations please know even if I don't respond I am getting them and reading everything. Sometimes it takes me a while to get back to everyone because this really is The Greatest Race.
I continue to focus on a fundraiser for the Marshall family. I received some emails from sponsors and ski companies which I will be reaching out to next week. The days go by quickly... I would like to get in touch with Darn Tough Vermont, I think they would be great to have involved for the fundraiser since he did sport that sticker on the front of his helmet the entire time and every time he got up he and everyone else would say Daaarn Tough Code Daaarn Tough! If anyone knows them please let me know. They do make great socks amongst other things.
Again, Thank you all for your continued support!!
For Now Until Then,
Draven

Cody! I am glad to hear that you are doing better. It sounds tough but I know you are working hard and will come out on top!
You should look up the story on CJ Johnson. I don't know if you have heard of him or not, but he is pro skier that had a TBI in 2005 while he was skiing. His story is crazy, but it is really inspiring to see how he has recovered and is back skiing and loving it!
There are some videos of him on youtube that are really good.
Miss you lots Cody, thinking good, positive things about you all the time!

Cody,
Coach "Woody" here from Michigan. I just had a chance to read your article in Ski Racing. That was awesome, they did a great job with the writing of the article. I am a 20 year subscriber to Ski Racing, and I can tell you that my opinion is that the magazine is the best on the planet for covering all snowsports, so to have your article in the magazine is tremendous. "Well done".
And I really hope that the power to b's at USSA really stand by you and offer there full support. And as a 20 year plus, coach, paying coaches dues and in the past donating some funds to the Athlete Developement Program I sure would like to see USSA help you as much as possible.
Keep training hard Cody, enjoy those awesome meals that Draven, and the volunteers have been preparing for you. So, get that skiing weight back and the muscles will follow along with your training. Looks like you will also enjoy the new training center, looks great in the pictures.

Draven, keep healthy yourself, stay stong.

Hi Cody and Draven,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and were able to enjoy some outside time. I haven't commented before but am a ski racing fan from flat, flat Chicago who has been cheering you on your recovery. This morning on the subway I saw an ad for a store here in the city - Marbles the Brain Store - and immediately thought of you. Don't know if you've come across it yet but it looks like they have a great website with tons of games sorted by category of what you are focusing on. If you are looking for some variety maybe there's something there to change up what you've been doing.

Have a great week.
