AN UPDATE FROM THE MAN HIMSELF! SUNDAY 5:56 PM
It is a cold Sunday in Park City and I figured it is about time that I
made a post myself on this wonderful blog. I have been out of the
hospital for a month and have been busy with rehab down in Salt Lake
and up in the Park City. Naturally with the injury that I incurred we
have to be a little conservative with the approach I take with my
physical training. I have been making some great gains and feeling
great in the process, its just going to take a little bit of time to get
back the 30lbs I lost. The US team has been supportive and we have
just ramped up my strength program a little so hopefully, I can be
sliding around on my skis soon!
Draven has played a huge role as always in my recovery process and soon we will both get a break from this cold Utah weather. No more looking at snow on the ground... we are heading to California for a week to visit with Jesse and celebrate his birthday with him. I think it will be a nice break for both of us and I cant wait to hang out with Jesse a little bit, he works too much these days.
As I move forward with my recovery I am trying to take pride in the small steps that I am taking everyday. With an injury like mine there are plenty of things that can drive you insane just by thinking about them. I have noticed great progress not only in my physical training but from a neurological stand point as well. The biggest thing this accident has taught me and is still teaching me is patience.
I want to thank everyone who is still reading! All the support I got when I was in really bad shape and am still getting really has done a lot for me. THANKS to all of you!!

What a wonderful surprise to see your note -- and "hear your voice." You're working so hard, and you've come such a long way. I love reading about your progress. I especially love to hear that you're getting to go on a vacation. You certainly deserve it!
I'll look forward to hearing about you getting stronger and gaining weight -- so much better than the news of medical challenges and scary procedures.
Welcome back, Cody!

Hey Cody!
Hello from Colorado! I have been following your progress since the beginning and talking to Draven and the gang via posts here! How nice to hear from YOU! You have the best support network ever! You are so lucky! As Draven knows, I, too, have a TBI. The hardest days are the "really bad headache" days, so take advantage at a nice slow pace on those GOOD DAYS!(Which I'm praying are a TON for you!) I've really enjoyed the support you've been given and reading about your journey!
Finally, I attempted the Pikes Peak Challenge (a fund raiser for the Brain Injury Association) in your honor this year. It's a 14,000 footer, and unfortunately, the altitude and blizzard played a role in my inability to reach it to the summit. Next year! I wore my "THINK CODY" t-shirt and had a lot of people asking me about you! Our dinner was at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. I hiked as far as I could in your honor! Next year, I'll make it to the summit in your honor....with my t-shirt! (there are a TON of pictures at www.pikespeakchallenge.com)
Keep up the GREAT work, and hug all of those around you!
Keep making IT HAPPEN!!
All the best,
Kelly in Colorado!

Cody,
Holy smokes!! You are amazing. I wasn't expecting such a well written first update directly from you. I am not sure what I was expecting but clearly I should have expected nothing less. You have come so far in such a short period of time. I am certain you will hit the slopes soon. It will be good for your soul! You are so lucky to have Draven and your family helping you every step of the way. I look forward to reading the updates and hearing about all of your continued progress. Perhaps I will meet you in person on the slopes sometime.
Best wishes,
Wendy

Wow --- How amazing is this post!!! You have recovered your writing ability!!! That's so incredible, since, as you obviously know, it's only been a few months since your TBI. Sooooo glad to hear you are recovering steadily, and strongly.
TAKE YOUR TIME. Think of recovering slowly, so you will be less achy as a 60 year old. The slower you go, the stronger you will be when you hit your old-geezer birthdays ;-]
Keep us posted through whomever decides to write!!!

Have been down in Pittsfield a ton lately doing some work with a friend. they love you down there. Everybody talking you up.
Vermont is ablaze in color right now. Lots of reds and oranges. No snow for us yet, but knocking on the door. I can wait a while. Looking forward to some good Indian-Summer days still.

Hey COdeman,
I am impressed...Glad to hear from the man himself. You have the right outlook regarding patience. Look how well your doing because you are learning the virtue of patience. Your awesome and determined to make a come back. Just remember to take it slow. Hey you can ski with me this winter I will show you how to ski slow and steady...hahaha.
That will test your patience level for sure! Have a great time in California keep up the good work. Don't worry about the weight it will come. Happy Birthday to Jesse

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Such great news. Keep up the efforts. Take it from one who had a short "patience" fuse, once you gain control a whole new tactic is available.

So glad you're doing well... stay patient, work hard (like you have so far) but also take all the time off that you need. You'll get your weight back and be back on the slopes soon, I can tell.
Enjoy CA and Jesse's B-day party

Hey Cody, great to hear from you! You have come a long way back! Your patience and hard work are paying off in a big way. We look forward to seeing you back on the snow this winter. But for now, go enjoy some quality time with your family and friends in sunny California. Say hi to Jesse and the rest of your wonderful family. You're very lucky to have all of them. They basically watched over and protected you every second during your recovery. Willing you back to life day by day. It was remarkable to witness. And, we’ve all appreciated the more important things in life these last few months because of it. We look forward to seeing you again in Killington sometime. I did see you last year on Super Star for a brief moment, but you were going way too fast to get a word in. Bob and Phoebe.

Cody,
So great to see you writing yourself! Great news. The skiers at St. Lawrence including my son Sean asked about you this weekend and I told them you were doing amazingly well. They may seem like small steps now, but they are really huge. Hang in there. I look forward to reading more of your entries.
Take care,
Karen

Cody Man,
Thats so cool reading your first blog direct from the Cody Man. Way to go. Now Draven gets to read what you are writing, hey---hey.
Sorry to hear about being down 30 lbs. Just think, now you can get Jr. ski equipment at half the cost. And Jr. clothing is way less expensive. (Just kidding Cody). We all know that with your spirit and heart that you will get the weight back on, and skking very strong again. Nice to see USSA giving you some support as well.
And as you had mentioned, "Patience" is the right way to think. Keep that mind set, and work hard. Have fun in California, and at Jesse's Birthday party. Rock on!

Draven, don't forget your sunscreen for California. Stay strong as well.

Oh Cody!!! So wonderful that you've come this far in such a relatively short time!!! Love reading all of the updates and grateful to Draven for taking such good care of you!!! I started to write a comment to you from VT a couple of weeks ago and my pc froze and then I got a new phone and didn't know how to work it...so after two weeks in VT and sorting out all of the technical stuff, I'm finally getting caught up!!! I especially love the story about you guys flying a kite! When Skip and I get the chance we are going to go fly a kite on the beach...haven't done that in who knows how long...sounds like so much fun!!! You've inspired us!!!
Have a wonderful trip to California!!! You guys deserve it!!!

Hi Cody and Draven.
Here's a late one from me. (Been away from my computer). What a great blog from the man himself! Absolutely agree on the patience thing - like pacing yourself in long-distance running. Really great also to hear things are going well neurologically. Tremendous news!
Best wishes,
Stephen Booth.

Hi Cody,
Thinking of you today. So great to read your own words. Sounds like you are on track for a great recovery. Keep up the good work and take plenty of time to REST. The mountains will still be there when you and your body are ready.
We are peak foliage here in Warren - always so amazing no matter how many times we've seen it. Leaf peepers galore, but good for the Valley.
Take care and hi to Draven.

Cody! I am so happy to hear that you are doing well. I've been following this blog for quite some time, and am so glad that you seem like you haven't lost the quick wit and determination I remember from swim team. I read this article on the BBC and thought of you. It's at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/8262393.stm
I know that this therapy is best started immediately, but thought you could give it a shot anyway.
Keep it up!
