A PERSONAL NOTE - BARB MARSHALL - MOM

I have always been a person who sees the glass as half empty. When I got the phone call about Cody and his accident, my thoughts went to the worst possible outcome. Even with his steady improvements, I was always waiting for a setback. But through all the dark moments, the prayers and support given by our community and our friends helped cushion me from going to a place with no hope.

As devastating as Cody's accident has been to him, it has also been very difficult for the rest of the family. Although we have each processed our fear and sadness in different ways, the one constant through it all has been the positive thoughts and encouragement we received. If there is a good thing to come out of this, it is knowing how many people Cody touched in his life. In the same way, our family will never forget how many people touched our life and helped us realize that we are not alone.

Thank you for all your continued support and love.

Barb

    Barb,

Well said. Our skiing world is so small compared to other sports, business. But the friendship, and support of the folks blogging in to the site for the Cody Man is just awesome.

So, keep that glass half full Barb, and the positive energy flowing.

As a fellow East Coaster, I am glad to hear from Cody's mom and can only imagine how difficult this has been. I would think it would be key for the family to say a huge thank you to Draven and recognize that he has been the real "constant" person in Cody's recovery going on 4 months... not here and there throughout..but everyday from what I read. I don't know how you would begin to thank someone who has given up their life to care for your son and brother the way he has and clearly asks nothing in return. But It seems a thank you party is in order for him to say the least. I hope in the shuffle of this life altering event he has not been over looked by the Marshall's. I don't see what you would have done without him. I see the supporters and friends sending much praise his way on their comments and have to admit I am surprised that none of the family members have expressed their gratitude publicly in any of their posts' and he clearly deserves the recognition. I have to say Bob Wright you hit the nail right on the head in regards to Draven and I personally thank you for your comment on 10/24 for Dravens sake. To my knowledge Draven also started the blog, the t-shirts, and fund raising efforts. I received an email from him at 4am on 2 occasions regarding my order so I imagine he is managing that as well. Through tragedy we sometimes get caught up in our own personal drama, I hope for Draven's sake The Marshall's have not done that and truly understand the magnitude of what he has done. We should all be so lucky to have someone that selfless if we were ever in this situation. I am a daily reader of this blog and felt compelled after reading this post to mention Draven since he wasn't mentioned and it would make my heart sink to feel the family is not showing due appreciation. Thank you to Draven. Sincerely, Jane

Shrunkin Head, you of all people do not see the glass half empty, B.S. who is on the hill all alone when it is full of knar-knar, you can't see you skiis in front of you with the Big-K fog, its so icey your teeth shatter, its you babe. The 1/2 empty folks are in the bar with a real glass 1/2 empty while your still ripping the knar. We all love you for your endless spirit and passion that you have spread through your family and in turn, the entire ski racing community family which we are all a part of, raises a full glass to you and Cody. Cody, I'm proud to even be on the same hill as you, keep up the hard work little brother!!! WE WILL SEE YA ON THE HILL SOON

Hey barb - great to hear that "turkey foot" did not permanently disable you!!!! Cody sounds great - I can't believe that he has had such a miraculous recovery - although he had a lot of help from Draven and family and friends, it seems that his incredible stubbornness and love of ski racing has pulled him from the depths into the light.

Cody -Here's hoping you get to go "surfing" , boogey boarding and skiing, as well. (the embedded spell check here suggests golf's "bogey" or the nose "booger" as the correct spelling!!!! I always thought it was boogey, oh well).

Draven - keep up the good work - don't let anonymous get to you.

Chels- glad to know you made it through Pitzdal - that place is scary.

Keep up the good work Deb Noble

    Hey Barb!
As the engineers will tell you, the glass is just twice as big as it needs to be.
See you on the hill before you know it!
