THOUGHT IT WAS ABOUT TIME......SAT 6:30PM--CODY
Back in Utah! It has been nice to be back home for a little while
before the winter really begins. Chelsea came out to visit for a week
before she left for Colorado where she has one more training camp
before her race season starts. I also had a friend visiting for the
week before she starts her job in Vail for the winter. It was really
nice to spend some time with them and other friends in town before
everyone starts going their separate ways.
I have continued to be busy with my training. Jess (my trainer from USSA) has me working hard here in Park City. I have dealt with injuries before in my career and they have all been difficult. Rehab always takes longer than you want and building back all the muscle you lost is a long slow process that tests your patience and passion for the sport. I had a knee surgery earlier this spring that at the time thought was a huge set back for me. After a couple months of hard work and rehab it was time for physical testing to see how my leg strength compared. On almost all of the tests I turned out to be stronger on the leg with the knee that had just been operated on two months ago. I was really excited with the results and couldn't wait to get back on snow. Of course I also thought, well this wasn't my fist knee surgery or injury, Ive been through this before and I knew how to put myself back together. Now I am looking at things a little differently. I have a much larger set back now then losing a little muscle in my leg. Lying in a bed for two months in the hospital results in serious muscle atrophy. It is a huge challenge for me just to get close to where I was before. Still, I think the same rules apply. Through the next twelve months of training to get myself back to competitive skiing I will try to remain patient and keep that passion for skiing alive. It dosen't matter how big the challenge is. If you know what you want you have to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
I am also in the process of figuring out what I will be doing with myself in the next few months. I have clear goals and ideas of how I will reach them, Its just a matter of where I will be living and a number of other things I need to think about in the next couple of weeks. I do have a few great options available to me so I'm sure things will work out great. What do you guys think, East or West for the winter??

Cody

Cody, it's been a while so I was glad to get the update.
I vote for West - if you are going to ski, the West has much better skiing.
It really depends on where your friends and support people are going to be, of course. Good luck and keep posting!

Cody,
Your recent post was great to read. I think it is wonderful that you have options! No right or wrong answer here. Choose one and if it doesn't feel right try the other...that is the beauty of life. Different things will feel right or wrong depending on circumstances and situations and having options and choices to switch means there is no wrong answer. Follow your heart and enjoy the ride. Its all good! Have a great winter and keep up the hard work and the good attitude. We are all behind you.

Oh man east or west is a nearly impossible question as there isn't a day I don't miss vermont and I only lived there for 2 years! ( I really hate how brown Utah is and how bad the drivers on the road are here) So yeah I cant really answer that for you but honestly with all I hate about the west and miss about the east I still would say west. And I really agree with what Barbra wrote "It really depends on where your friends and support people are going to be" because I think thats one of the main reasons i dislike Utah my whole family is back easy so take that into consideration your support group is a BIG consideration

Cody,
Good to here from ya again. I thought maybe you met up with a beach bunny and decided to stay in California.
It's nice that your trainer Jess is working you a lot. Keep at it Cody-Man.
Lift those weights dude. And we know that you will get to your goals.
As far as West vs East. I think you should see al of your friends in Vermont, and see all of your friends out west, **how's that for a decision aye.**
Hey, how is Draven doing, hope you guys are still working as a team. Seeee Ya.

Cody- Great to hear from you again - I hope Draven gets back to his enthusiastic self soon- we all appreciate him, his care for you and his keeping us up to date.
That said, it is so great that you have a choice as to where to go this season for rehab and living. Speaking as a parent, it would be nice to have an injured son back to visit for a while, if that is where you would stay. It also might be less expensive, which at this point must be a concern. There is great medical care nearby in Rutland and facilities at KMS and Killington/Pico. Since the pow-pow is less prevalent in VT, maybe the temptations to go wild would be fewer, if you need to take it easy on the on-snow aspect of rehab/fun. And, if you walked around barefoot, everyone is already used to that. You just have to promise not to throw any frozen turkeys on your mom's feet or anything else, because going home is always an opportunity for frustration with parents. So there! Good luck with your decisions.

Good to hear the progress. Go east, GMVS has the right training facility, Sasha is more than familiar.
And who knows maybe a few late season Eastern Cup tune ups.
Take care

Hey Cody - I'm as amazed by everyone with your progress. And I'm totally jealous at the west vs east question. i think east, though. after such an unusual few months, why not take the chance to go back to your roots for awhile? the west isn't going anywhere and will be ready and waiting when you're back to up to speed and ready to get back on snow with the Team. and someone else had a good point about it being nice for your mom and dad to have you back home for a bit.... where they can keep their own eyes on you!!!!!
Draven, I know you are there somewhere, hopefully you are getting some much deserved down time, even if it's just a little!
Go cody go.

GO WEST! Best is in the west! If you are skiing then 100% west and just hanging west too! But if you don't have much going on for you in the west and more in the east then i guess you could go to the east.

I admire your courage truthfully. It is a lot of hard work to rehabilitate yourself back to normal. I have been through very mild rehab and it was a lot for me to handle.

There's nothing like finally being back home. Sometimes it's refreshing to take a sabbatical and rediscover what you want out of life. The unknown is scary, but once you know what you want, the path becomes a bit more clear. Medical Insurance
